Botanical Dimensions
This botanical collection continues to grow as I am fascinated with the plant world and enjoy the challenge of botanical art. Capturing the essence of a plant and all of its intricate beauty and unique details. Often while creating these artworks I feel the need to use many layers of leaves and organic textures, which I gather on photography excursions. This layering technique is similar to how the forest floor of the rainforest continues to build up naturally as leaves fall and plant / animal life slowly decay, until it finally breaks down to feed the forest. The cycle of life and beauty in imperfection are a re-occuring theme in by work. Growing back to nature.
Many of the plants in this collection are found in the wet tropics rainforest of far north QLD, Australia. This area has the greatest diversity of plants and animals found anywhere in Australia. The rainforests of the Wet Tropics area of north east Queensland are the most species rich, with over 2,250 species that we know of and many more are yet to be discovered. In the Daintree region some of its plants dating back to the earliest-known flowering plants, more than 110 million years ago.
Although I was born in the rainforest and once again live here in the wet tropics of northern Australia my botanical artwork is not limited to the rainforest, which you may notice when browsing this collection. My heart however belongs in the rainforest with all of the abundant plants, animals and mushrooms which call it home.
